Six Great Stand-Up Comedians

By Andy Beaudoin on April 7, 2013

Comedy is wonderful and it definitely feels good to have a nice, hard laugh now and then. I thought I would share my love of stand-up comedy with you, so I’ve put a list of clips from some great comedians from the last 40 years or so. Enjoy!

Louis C.K.

Possibly my favorite comedian, Louis C.K. has been in the comedy business since he was a teenager. Now with multiple stand-up specials, nationwide tours and his own show on FX, Louis has definitely made his mark as one of the best comedians right now. With his own unique vulgarity and view on the mundane, Louis will keep you laughing.

Check out his monologue from SNL.

Reggie Watts

A genius and fantastic performer, Reggie Watts is probably one of the most unique comedians/musicians/thinkers today. He is noted for his “stream of conscientiousness” type of stand-up which is extremely improvised. He speaks several languages, beat boxes and sings.

See for yourself in his TED talk.

Woody Allen

Before his long history of filmmaking, Woody Allen actually got his start in writing jokes and then, eventually telling them on stage. Many comedians today credit him as being their inspiration for getting into the business.

Here’s a rare video of his stand-up from 1965.

Eddie Izzard

A notorious cross-dresser and ambitious comedian, this British native has very original content and has been trying to do his stand-up in multiple languages. He believes strongly that comedy is universal and wants everyone to join the “melting pot.”

Check out this stand-up routine that is half in French, but still weirdly funny to those who don’t speak it.

Bill Cosby

Known widely as “Cliff” Huxtable from “The Cosby Show”, Bill Cosby also has a long history of stand-up routines. Like Louis, minus the vulgarity, Cosby likes to talk about things people can relate to. He has a gentle personality, but a sharp wit and a hilarious way of talking about it.

Roseanne Barr

Famous for her own show and blunt humor, Roseanne was a stay-at-home mom when she first started doing comedy—and killed it. She got offered her show shortly after getting in the spotlight and has been known by many for a while.

Here’s her first television appearance on the Johnny Carson show.
